Fans mourning the death of
Xena: Warrior Princess received a
glimmer of hope this week. Lucy
Lawless (right), who played the title
role in the recently axed television
show, is the hot favourite to portray
Wonder Woman, the mother of all
super-heroines. The comic book
character inspired a much-loved
television series in the Seventies,
starring Lynda Carter, but previous
plans for Wonder Woman to join
her DC Comics stablemates
Batman and Superman on the big
screen have floundered.
Now, the producer Joel Silver (Die
Hard, Lethal Weapon) has hired
the screenwriter Todd Alcotto to prepare a script that will finally transform
the Amazon adventuress into a fully-fledged cinema franchise.
